Simon Osei-Mensah on ECG Boss

ffff

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has rebuffed demands from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Workers’ Union for an apology following the arrest of one of their Managers.

Osei-Mensah defended his actions, asserting that he instructed the Police to apprehend ECG’s Ashanti East Manager, Mark Wiafe Asomani, citing security concerns.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kumasi, the Minister disclosed pre-existing agreements between ECG and the Kumasi Technical University to settle the university’s outstanding debts.

He assured reporters that his actions were within the scope of his duties and devoid of any wrongdoing. “Should I apologize for fulfilling my security responsibilities? My directive to invite Ing Mark Asomani Wiafe was solely based on security considerations, given the developments in the electricity sector within the region and the possibility of external task forces disconnecting without prior notification.”

Osei-Mensah dismissed assertions that some ECG managers were part of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC). He also criticized ECG for allegedly disregarding REGSEC’s directives to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the President and Vice President’s residences in the Ashanti Region.

Moreover, he accused ECG of overcharging him for electricity at his residence while denying any outstanding payments to the utility company.
