EC Challenges NDC to provide evidence

The Electoral Commission (EC) has openly challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to present concrete evidence supporting their claims of irregularities in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).

The NDC had expressed concerns over possible flaws in the voter registration process, including the deletion of registered voters, unauthorized voter transfers, and missing names from the Absent Voter List.

Provisional Voters Register

In response, the EC clarified that the PVR is only a draft and not the final register. The Commission emphasized that under Constitutional Instrument 91 (C.I. 91), there are well-defined procedures to update and rectify the register to ensure its accuracy.

“The PVR is not a final document,” an EC spokesperson said. “It undergoes scrutiny and correction before the final register is compiled.”

Exhibition Exercise

The EC also stressed the importance of the Exhibition Exercise, a crucial step that allows voters to verify and correct their information. The register is displayed both online and at polling stations to ensure transparency and accuracy.

Eight-Step Process

The Commission highlighted its comprehensive eight-step procedure for compiling the Final Voters Register, which includes registration, adjudication, exhibition, and verification.

NDC’s Lack of Evidence

Although the NDC had pledged to submit data outlining discrepancies, they have yet to provide any supporting documentation to the EC.

“We cannot investigate allegations without concrete evidence,” the EC spokesperson noted.

Commitment to Transparency

Despite the allegations, the EC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a transparent and credible electoral process, assuring all stakeholders of its dedication to electoral integrity.
