The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced its plan to publish polling station results on its website for the first time, aiming to improve transparency in the electoral process.
Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairperson of the EC, stated that this initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the credibility and openness of the upcoming elections.
“We will ensure that the polling station results are published on our website well before any legal actions are taken…so people can verify what really transpired at the polling station,” Dr. Asare told JoyNews.
This decision follows a call from Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns, who urged the EC to publish polling station results online.
Dr. Asare further assured that the EC is committed to meeting the expectations of all political parties and stakeholders, preventing any unjustified accusations. He added that results will only be posted online once all polling station outcomes have been collected.
“Since it’s our first time implementing this, we will make sure we have the complete results from all polling stations before publishing them,” he concluded.
