The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has recently faced a power generation shortfall due to the shutdown of the Atuabo gas processing plant. As a result, the ECG has released a nationwide load-shedding timetable to manage the electricity supply across the country. The load-shedding began on Thursday, March 30, and is expected to last until Friday, April 7, 2023.
According to the ECG, the load-shedding will take place between 6.00pm and 11.00pm daily. This means that during these hours, some areas in the country will experience power outages, while others will have access to electricity. The load-shedding timetable has been designed to rotate the power outages across the country to ensure that no area experiences prolonged periods of electricity shortage. The ECG has advised the public to take precautions during the load-shedding period, including switching off all electrical appliances when not in use and avoiding overloading electrical sockets. They have also assured the public that they are working to restore the electricity supply to normal levels as soon as possible.
The shutdown of the Atuabo gas processing plant is expected to last for several days, and the ECG has warned that load-shedding may continue beyond April 7 if necessary. The ECG has urged the public to be patient during this time and to conserve energy to help manage the electricity supply across the country.
