The Electoral Commission (EC) has initiated an inquiry into an alleged bribery incident captured on video at a polling station during the ongoing by-election in the Ejisu Constituency.
The footage, circulated on social media platforms, shows an individual placing an envelope on the table where the Presiding Officer and Ballot Issuer are stationed at the Fumesua Pentecost Church Polling Station (Polling Station Code F311503).
In response to this video, the EC has swiftly taken action by suspending the two temporary staff members implicated, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The EC’s statement underscored its unwavering commitment to upholding principles of integrity, truth, and transparency throughout the electoral process.
It emphasized, “The Commission will not tolerate actions that tarnish the reputation of the institution and will promptly penalize any officials found to be in breach of its regulations.”
Additionally, the EC stressed the significance of training all temporary staff to align with the Commission’s values and reiterated its steadfast dedication to ensuring impartial and credible elections.
“We treat allegations of electoral misconduct with utmost seriousness and pledge a thorough inquiry into this matter,” the statement affirmed.
The EC reassures the public that the results of the investigation will be disclosed in due course.
