Ghanaian music star Black Sherif has revealed that he no longer offers advice to emerging artistes, explaining that doing so may deprive them of the real-life experiences needed to build genuine and lasting careers.
The Konongo-born artiste, widely recognised for his breakout success, said his perspective has evolved over time as he observed the challenges involved in breaking into the music industry. According to him, the struggles, uncertainty, and persistence that define an artist’s early journey are not obstacles to avoid, but essential elements of growth.
He noted that offering guidance can sometimes interfere with this natural process, as personal experiences—both good and bad—play a crucial role in shaping an artiste’s identity and creativity.
While he was more open to mentoring young talents in 2021, Black Sherif now believes that upcoming artistes must discover their own paths, even if it involves making mistakes along the way. In his view, hardship should not be seen as a setback, but rather as a necessary part of development.
His stance has come as a surprise to some fans, particularly given his own rapid rise to prominence despite early challenges, including unsuccessful attempts at talent shows such as MTN Hitmakers and TV3 Mentor.
However, he maintains that his success was shaped by personal experience, persistence, and self-discovery rather than external guidance or shortcuts. This philosophy continues to influence his music, which is often rooted in raw, personal storytelling that reflects themes of struggle, resilience, and authenticity.
