Renowned Ghanaian fashion designer and entrepreneur Halimatu Sadia Sanusi has passed away at the age of 33, according to a joint statement released by her family and management team on Monday, June 15, 2026.
The statement confirmed that she died peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2026. While an official cause of death has not been disclosed, sources within her creative circle suggest she passed away in her sleep.
Her family has requested privacy during this period of mourning, with plans to announce funeral and memorial arrangements at a later date.
From Pageant Star to Fashion Industry Trailblazer
Before rising to prominence in the fashion industry, Sanusi first gained national recognition in 2012 after placing as second runner-up in the Miss Malaika Ghana pageant, where she also won the Miss Talent award.
She later pursued academic training in Communication Design at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), which laid the foundation for her creative career.
At just 19 years old, she launched her first tailoring label in 2012. Her entrepreneurial journey expanded further in 2016 with the establishment of a luxury fashion atelier in Accra, which became the base of her growing brand.
“Kente Couture Queen” of Ghanaian Fashion
Sanusi earned widespread acclaim in Ghana’s fashion industry for her innovative approach to design, blending traditional African textiles with contemporary couture techniques.
She became popularly known as the “Kente Couture Queen” for her signature creations, which featured intricate corsetry, structured silhouettes, and modern reinterpretations of Ghana’s iconic kente fabric.
Her work was especially celebrated in bridal fashion, where she designed custom pieces for high-profile clients, celebrities, and public figures across Ghana and beyond.
A Career Cut Short at a Defining Moment
Her passing comes at a particularly significant time in her career, as she was preparing to mark her 10th anniversary in the fashion industry.
Sanusi had also been actively promoting her upcoming SS Kente Sewing Artistry Masterclass, an intensive bridal couture training program scheduled to begin on June 22, 2026.
The news of her death has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s creative and fashion communities, where she was widely regarded as one of the country’s most influential contemporary designers.
Brand Continuity and Ongoing Commitments
In their statement, Sanusi’s management team assured clients and partners that operations under the Sadia Sanusi brand will continue.
They confirmed that:
- All ongoing bespoke and bridal orders will be completed and delivered as scheduled
- Existing consultations, fittings, and styling appointments will proceed under management supervision
- A formal update will be provided regarding the status of the upcoming June masterclass
The family and management have thanked supporters for their condolences and urged the public to respect their privacy as they navigate their loss.
