On Monday, October 23, 2023, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, formally requested the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations of cash-for-road contracts.

These allegations emerged following statements made by the former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, who claimed that individuals seeking road contracts were being told to pay an upfront fee of 1 million Ghanaian cedis.

Prof. Adei expressed his disappointment with the current regime led by Nana Akufo-Addo, emphasizing that such practices are detrimental to the government’s reputation.

In response to these allegations, the Minister for Roads and Highways expressed surprise and defended the transparency of the road contract award processes. The Ministry affirmed that these processes are open, competitive, and conducted in accordance with the law.

The Ministry also pledged its full cooperation and support for EOCO in the conduct of the investigation to determine the veracity of these allegations.
