Speaking to the media in Asiwa, Bosomefreho District, after a joint security operation on Friday, he highlighted the devastating effects of illegal mining on water bodies, road networks, and local communities.
The operation involved personnel from the Police Service, Immigration Service, Minerals Commission, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and national security agencies. Several arrests were made, and six excavators along with other mining equipment were seized. Among those apprehended were Burkinabe, Indian, and Chinese nationals, as well as undocumented Ghanaian miners engaged in illegal activities.
Captain Jabari emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue, stating that illegal mining continues to destroy the environment and critical infrastructure. He stressed that the fight against galamsey remains a priority and that security agencies will sustain efforts until tangible results are achieved.
He also underscored the importance of collaboration among security agencies, noting that their operations are structured and executed strategically to enforce mining laws and safeguard the environment.
Additionally, he raised concerns about unregulated mining equipment suppliers, pointing out that many mining shops operate unchecked, supplying machinery to illegal miners. He suggested that better regulation of these businesses could help curb illegal mining activities.
