Derek Boateng, a former midfielder for the Black Stars, has recommended the Ghana Football Association (GFA) prioritize juvenile football in the country over the well-established Black Star. Boateng believes the GFA excessively relies on the Black Stars for success and has neglected the youth teams for years. He suggests the best way to build the future of Ghanaian football is to cultivate young talent through the ranks, as youth players are more accessible to train than established senior national team players.
Boateng expressed his views on Joy FM, stating that the GFA should focus on grassroots football rather than the Black Stars and that the organization should provide more support to young players. He cited the lack of care shown towards grassroots football as a significant issue and called for the GFA to revive Colts football and improve the junior national teams. Boateng played for the junior national teams before becoming a key player for the Black Star.
