Follow the appropriate procedures – Joshua Ansah

Organised Labour is advising its members to follow the appropriate procedures, including obtaining police approval, when planning demonstrations. Joshua Ansah, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), emphasized that adhering to these established processes would grant them the authority to proceed with their protests.

Following a meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ansah stated during a press briefing, “We are a law-abiding organization. We typically submit a request to the police, which is required to be done five days in advance. The police, in turn, have the responsibility to assess the arrangements, including the proposed routes, destination, starting points, and the designated time for concluding the demonstration. If they are satisfied with these details, they grant us permission to proceed.”
He expressed confidence that once they have informed the police in accordance with the law, the police would not prevent them from conducting their demonstration or strike.

It’s worth noting that the Minority in Parliament plans to stage a protest on October 3, 2023, against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison, and his two deputies. The Minority has accused the BoG of mismanaging the economy and has called for the resignation of the governor.
