Frank Lampard appointed as Chelsea’s caretaker manager for the rest of the season, replacing the sacked Graham Potter. As Chelsea conduct an “exhaustive search” for their next manager, Lampard, who managed the club from July 2019 to July 2021, has returned to the club.
Lampard has stated he will “focus on the job at hand” and not seek to land the role full time. Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have expressed their confidence in Lampard’s ability to full time the team to success. On Saturday, Lampard will face Wolves in the Premier League, followed by Wednesday’s Champions League quarterfinal first leg against Real Madrid.
Having learned from their mistake in appointing Graham Potter, Chelsea is determined to search for a new permanent manager thoroughly. They are considering Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, and Mauricio Pochettino for the position.
In the meantime, Lampard will keep the team in a holding pattern and be popular with supporters. He has recent managerial experience, although his previous stint with Chelsea could have been more successful. Lampard’s return will give the club time to vet potential candidates before deciding.
