Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) tactics ahead of the upcoming general election, accusing the ruling party of spreading misinformation and engaging notable personalities to propagate falsehoods.

Cudjoe alleges that the NPP is actively misinforming voters, pointing to a video clip circulating on social media as a specific example. The video, reportedly from a local language morning show on Wontumi TV, a station aligned with the NPP, falsely claims that voting for the first seven candidates on the presidential ballot will occur on December 7, while voting for the remaining candidates will take place on December 8.

This misleading information has been flagged by Facebook for violating its community standards.

Cudjoe criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for failing to address these incidents. He also questioned the EC’s voter education efforts, claiming they seem reactive and tailored to discredit certain political parties.

Similarly, Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, Executive Director of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), condemned Wontumi TV for spreading false information.

“This is a total fabrication. There is only one election day, and that is December 7,” Professor Prempeh stated in a Facebook post. He emphasized that any suggestion of staggered voting based on ballot positions is entirely false and would be unlawful.

The incident has raised concerns about the impact of misinformation on the electoral process and highlighted the need for stronger voter education and accountability from all stakeholders involved in the election.
