Gen-Z demo: High Court in Accra grants injunction application

The High Court in Accra has granted an injunction application by the Police to halt the planned seven-day Gen-Z demonstration in Accra.

The court’s decision was influenced by the fact that Ghana is in an election year, which has placed constraints on the Police.

However, the organizers of the demonstration, who represented themselves in court, argued that the Police have used the same reasons to stop demonstrations in the country for the past seven years.

Despite their arguments, the judge granted the Police’s application.

The organizers have pledged to remain calm and continue fighting to protect their democratic right to demonstrate.

“We will file another notice with the Police this afternoon to begin another round of engagements to ensure that Gen-Z’s of this country can demonstrate,” they said in a statement.

They also cautioned the Police against abusing court processes to prevent lawful and peaceful demonstrations, warning that spontaneous street protests could lead to a bigger crisis.
