GES Responds to Delays in Staff IDs and Salaries for Newly Posted Teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has responded to concerns from newly posted teachers regarding delays in the issuance of staff IDs and salary payments.

In a press release dated June 24, 2025, GES Management acknowledged receiving a petition from the affected teachers and outlined measures taken to address the situation.

According to GES, a total of 12,807 graduates were recruited from Colleges of Education in 2024. Of this number, 9,950 teachers had received their staff IDs and were paid by December 2024.

However, 2,113 teachers, despite having staff IDs, could not be paid due to expired financial clearance, while 582 others did not receive staff IDs because of incomplete documentation.

To address the challenges, GES has launched a nationwide staff validation exercise and established a technical committee to improve communication and coordination. Additionally, letters have been sent to the Ministry of Finance requesting an extension of the expired financial clearance.

“We are working diligently to resolve recruitment backlogs and prevent future delays by tackling systemic issues within the recruitment process,” the statement noted.

GES also appealed for a more unified representation from the affected teachers, highlighting that past picketing efforts have been fragmented, making engagement difficult.

“We understand the frustrations of the affected teachers and assure them that significant progress is being made,” said Daniel Fenyi, GES Public Relations Officer. “Management remains committed to transparency, accountability, and collaboration in resolving this matter.”
