According to recent news, Major General Emmanuel Kotia, Ghana Boundary Commission, has expressed concerns over illegal mining activities along the Ghana-Cote D’Ivoire borders, which have led to the removal of international boundary pillars and a teak plantation. The Ghanaian Boundary Commission and other agencies such as the Minerals Commission, Forestry Commission, and Geological Survey Authority are investigating and planning a course of action to address the issue. A meeting in May will explore funding options for constructing boundary pillars and inspecting and reaffirming the international boundary line with Ivorian counterparts.

Minerals Commission is prepared to engage with the people in the area on regularizing their movements because of illegal mining activities. The activities of the miners also affected Mobile National Park, and the agency is taking action to resolve the issue. People, including foreigners, are attracted to the Dollar Power enclave because it is illegally mined. The Ghana Geological Survey Authority is to conduct detailed investigations and delineate zones for community mining to determine the extent of mineralization.

The Dollar Power Community has asked the government for security and water supply in northern Ghana. The community faces significant security challenges. Mr. Mahammah Tayiru, speaking on behalf of the Chief for protection against invasion by armed groups, should provide police posts, immigration, military, and other relevant security presences. Water is also a significant challenge in the community. Mr. Tayiru has urged the government to enroll the community in its flagship programs, including the community mining scheme, to curb illegal mining and improve their living conditions.
