The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the government has commenced the immediate evacuation of Ghanaians living in Iran, following heightened tensions between Iran and Israel.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Ablakwa revealed that Ghana’s embassy in Tehran has been shut down with immediate effect to ensure the safety of diplomatic staff.

“The evacuation is being conducted via land borders and includes all Ghanaian nationals in Iran—diplomats, students, professionals, and other residents,” he said.

Ablakwa affirmed the government’s strong commitment to protecting its citizens, stating, “No effort will be spared in safeguarding Ghanaian lives and ensuring their security during this period of heightened danger.”

He also disclosed that the situation in Israel is being closely monitored. Ghana’s embassy in Tel Aviv has scaled down operations to essential services only, and all Ghanaian nationals in Israel have been advised to stay in regular contact with the consular office.

Reiterating Ghana’s position on the conflict, Ablakwa called for restraint and diplomacy: “The Government of Ghana once again urges both sides to end hostilities and pursue a peaceful, diplomatic resolution to the crisis.”
