Healthcare services can now be accessed using the Ghana card at any authorized health center across the nation, announced the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
Dr. Aboagye Dacosta, the Chief Executive of the NHIA, revealed this plan during a visit to Okuapenhene Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III in Akropong on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. The initiative aims to streamline the healthcare system by phasing out NHIS cards and replacing them with a single Ghana card, thereby reducing the cost of producing both types of cards.
“Under the government’s Digitalisation agenda, we are transitioning to a single card system, which is the Ghana card. For individuals under 15 years old who do not yet have a Ghana card, NHIS cards are currently issued,” Dr. Dacosta explained.
He further elaborated, “This card will be integrated with NHIS member details, allowing the merged or linked Ghana card to serve as a means to access healthcare. This approach will not only streamline the system but also save costs associated with printing NHIS cards and Ghana cards
