The Ghana Navy’s assumption of guard duties at the Jubilee House, replacing the Ghana Army, marks a significant shift in security responsibilities within the country. The ceremony, held on Monday, March 18, 2024, was attended by various dignitaries including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who also serves as the Chairman of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Council.

During the event, Naval Lieutenant George Cosmos Yaw Duedu, serving as the Parade Commander, highlighted the duties of the guards. These responsibilities include safeguarding the President, maintaining day and night sentry posts, and conducting security patrols to ensure the safety of the Presidency.

Among the notable attendees were the Minister for Defence, Dominic Ntiwul, Chief of the Defence Staff Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, and Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. The presence of government officials, service chiefs, senior officers, and pupils further emphasized the importance of the occasion.

This transition underscores the Ghana Navy’s increased involvement in national security affairs, reflecting a strategic decision to utilize different branches of the armed forces to safeguard key institutions and personnel within the country.
