The Black Stars of Ghana suffered a 2-0 loss to Sudan at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, placing their hopes of qualifying for the tournament in serious jeopardy.

Ghana entered the match in desperate need of a win, having accumulated just two points from their first three Group F matches, including a defeat to Angola and draws against Niger and Sudan.

The first half ended goalless, with Ghana enjoying more possession but failing to create any significant chances. Meanwhile, Sudan looked dangerous on the counterattack and posed a few threats to the Ghanaian defense.

After halftime, Ghana came out with more intensity and nearly took the lead when Inaki Williams found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled offside. Despite Ghana’s dominance in possession, Sudan broke the deadlock in the 60th minute when Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud capitalized on a defensive mix-up to score.

Sudan quickly doubled their lead just three minutes later, with Mohamed Abdelrahman outpacing Mohammed Salisu and slotting the ball past goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi.

The 2-0 defeat leaves Ghana’s chances of AFCON qualification hanging by a thread. With only two points from four matches, the Black Stars will need to win their final two games and hope Sudan loses both of theirs to have any chance of advancing.
