Students studying in Russia under the Government of Ghana scholarships are urging the government to settle the stipends owed to them promptly. According to Derick Yamoah Gyasi, President of the National Union of Ghanaian Students in Russia, students are having difficulty accessing funds from their home countries because of delayed payments. He explained, “There is a debt spanning over a year that needs to be paid to the students. Our current concern revolves around the relationship between the students in Russia and the secretariat responsible for their welfare.

Unfortunately, Russia’s SWIFT system is non-functional, making bank transfers impossible. We cannot use popular direct money transfer systems such as MoneyGram and Western Union, which were previously available. It has become challenging to receive financial support from home for our basic needs.”

Gyasi expressed frustration, stating, “The only assistance we require is the disbursal of funds intended to supplement our stay here. Despite contacting the Embassy numerous times, our attempts to contact the secretariat have been in vain.”

The students have expressed many concerns regarding the delayed stipend payments, emphasizing that it adversely affects their academic performance and makes their living conditions precarious.
