In an inspiring turn of events, Benjamin Darko, an exceptional Secondary School graduate who gained widespread recognition for his outstanding performance in the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), has been awarded a full educational scholarship by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). This scholarship will enable Darko to pursue his passion for Chemical Engineering at the esteemed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST).

The GNPC Foundation announced this development through a heartwarming post on Facebook. In the presence of Master Darko and his family, Dr. Dominic Eduah, the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, along with the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, unveiled this remarkable scholarship package.

Dr. Eduah emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Foundation’s Education & Training unit to provide support and reignite Darko’s hopes. Collaborating with educational partners, the GNPC Foundation has taken proactive measures to facilitate Darko’s successful admission into the upcoming enrollment window at KNUST.

Despite achieving an impressive score of 5A’s and 3B’s, the determined 21-year-old former Science student from Presbyterian Senior Secondary School (PRESEC) – Legon, faced financial obstacles that hindered his pursuit of a university-level course in Medical Science. To keep his dreams alive, Darko has diligently engaged in various menial jobs since 2021 while also working as a fuel attendant at a GOIL station in Kumasi. His inspirational journey garnered nationwide attention after his result slip went viral on social media.

Dr. Eduah expressed the GNPC Foundation’s empathy toward the challenges faced by numerous parents and students seeking educational advancement under financial constraints. He reiterated the Foundation’s dedication to enabling the realization of dreams through scholarships and other educational intervention programs.

Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, conveyed her delight in contributing to Benjamin Darko’s educational journey. She congratulated Darko on receiving the scholarship; and advised him to maintain discipline throughout his university tenure. Overwhelmed with gratitude and excitement about resuming his education, Benjamin Darko expressed heartfelt appreciation to the GNPC for their invaluable contribution to shaping his future. He assured everyone that he would give his utmost effort and seize every opportunity.

With the GNPC Foundation’s remarkable support, Benjamin Darko’s unwavering determination and commitment to his education will be duly rewarded as he embarks on his academic journey at KNUST. His story is an inspiring example for aspiring students nationwide, showcasing that dreams can be achieved through perseverance and the support of benevolent organizations.
