The widow of the late Deputy Finance Minister and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, John Kumah, has firmly denied circulating reports of his death resulting from food poisoning. In an interview with Asaase News, Apostle Lilian Kumah clarified that her husband courageously battled a severe illness for over a year, contrary to speculations.

Apostle Lilian Kumah, also the General Overseer of Disciples of Christ Ministries, expressed her dismay at those speculating about the cause of her husband’s death. She urged them to cease such discussions, emphasizing that it adds to the pain experienced by her immediate and extended family.

She also called for swift police action against individuals, including Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, who publicly claimed that her late husband was poisoned without providing any evidence to support the allegation.

Apostle Lilian Kumah stated, “If there are laws in this country concerning such false claims, I think this is the time for the leadership of the land to bring that wicked person (Captain Smart) to book to prove his false claims and to point out the persons who were involved in the poisoning of my late husband.”

Addressing the actual cause of her husband’s death, Apostle Lilian Kumah explained that John Kumah was diagnosed with a blood-related disease in August 2023 in Germany during a medical check-up. She emphasized that throughout the medical check-ups in Germany and Ghana, poisoning was never mentioned by any of the doctors.

Despite the pain he endured, John Kumah remained resilient, motivated by the motto, “We don’t do what is convenient; we do what we are commanded to do.” His widow highlighted that all medical reports, both from Germany and Ghana, never mentioned food poisoning.

Dr. John Kumah passed away at about 12:40 PM at the Suhum government hospital after being diverted there during an ambulance journey from Ejisu to Accra. The doctor on board noticed his deteriorating condition. Despite efforts at the Suhum government hospital to stabilize him, he could not be kept alive.
