Hearts of Oak secured another valuable point on the road as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Karela United at the Aliu Mahama stadium in Tamale.
The Premier League giants were eager to end the week on a high note, following a draw against Gold Stars at Bibiani and a 3-1 victory over champions Medeama SC earlier in the week.
Karela United took an early lead in the sixth minute, with Owusu Boakye rising above the defense to head the ball into the net from a well-delivered throw-in from the right side.
Accra Hearts of Oak stepped up their game in search of an equalizer before halftime. Hamza Issah answered the call in the 40th minute with a magnificent equalizer, marking his fourth goal in the last three games. Hamza rose high to nod the ball into the net from a well-taken corner kick, and both teams went into halftime level.
After the break, Karela United showed determination to secure a victory as they dominated play and held the majority of possession. However, their efforts were repeatedly thwarted by Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richmond Ayi.
The tide shifted in Karela United’s favor when Owusu Boakye was fouled in the box after an impressive run in the 82nd minute. The referee awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute, but the home side failed to capitalize as Evans Adomako’s penalty kick was saved by Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richmond Aryee.
Despite the home side’s continued efforts to secure a match-winning goal, Hearts of Oak held on to claim a point against Karela.
With this draw, Hearts of Oak moved up to the eighth spot in the league standings, while Karela United sits in 14th place, with more fixtures scheduled for Sunday.
