I Resisted the Temptation to Resign -Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng

Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the former Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), has revealed he resisted the temptation to submit his resignation letter to maintain control of the situation, despite the lack of collaboration from his fellow ministers.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng emphasized that leaving his position would have worsened the situation. He reflected, “I had to hold on because the consequences would have been disastrous if I had simply given up and said, ‘I’m done.'”

He further questioned, “Just imagine what would have happened in this country?”

According to him, the non-compliance of his colleague ministers had nothing to do with his leadership style of always thinking he was right.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng served as the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), during President Akufo-Addo’s first term in office. In a shocking report dated March 19, 2021, Frimpong-Boateng mentioned Mr. Oppong Nkrumah as one of the ministers who abandoned the IMCIM despite being a member.

He stated, “It is important to note that Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, as the Minister for Information, was a member of the IMCIM. However, he never contacted me to inquire about my knowledge of the ‘missing excavators.’ Instead, he deemed it necessary to amplify the issue in the media and present false information before the Cabinet, for reasons best known to him and his co-conspirators.”

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng urged individuals like Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who have presidential ambitions, to pursue them based on merit rather than attempting to destroy a hard-working patriot whose sole purpose is to work towards achieving a Ghana Beyond Aid, as stated in the report.
