Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, urged women coerced by their husbands into engaging in oral and anal sex to report these incidents to the police. She emphasized that regardless of the gender involved, anal sex is illegal. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful expressed concern about wives facing divorce threats for refusing such acts and highlighted the bill’s importance in addressing these issues.

Bernard Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and Ranking Member on the Constitutional Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Bernard, reassured that passing the bill would not violate any international treaty. He refuted claims made during the parliamentary debate that the bill might breach international treaties such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civic and Political Rights, and the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.

According to Ahiafor, the bill, if enacted, would not violate Article 108 of Ghana’s 1992 constitution and would not contravene any provisions in international treaties or conventions.
