Integrated Customs Management System Data Access Concerns

ie

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana expressed dissatisfaction with the Special Prosecutor’s request for access to the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS) platform, which they consider highly sensitive. They emphasized that the medium contains valuable and sensitive data of importers, exporters, and business operators. The association cautioned that any breaches caused by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in their pursuit of data access could harm the business community.

In a press release on June 15, 2023, the group demanded an explanation from the OSP regarding their unexpected request. They specifically requested clarification on the factors that influenced the OSP’s sudden interest and the specific data they intended to access from the ICUMS platform, as stated in the statement reported by Metro TV.

While supporting efforts to ensure a corruption-free port sector, the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana pledged to adhere to ethical business practices. They also urged the OSP to conduct its obligations transparently to secure support from key business stakeholders.
