On Thursday, President Joe Biden hinted that the US government is nearing identifying the individual responsible for leaking sensitive government secrets on social media.
Speaking in Dublin during a meeting with the Irish president, Biden confirmed that the intelligence community and the Justice Department are conducting a full-blown investigation. Still, he provided no specific information regarding the leaker’s identity.
The Washington Post reported that the leaker, a young gun enthusiast, posted national security secrets on Discord, a social media platform popular with video gamers. Biden expressed his concern over the leak, but he stated he was not worried about the content of the leaked documents.
Some of the leaked documents include detailed intelligence assessments of allies and adversaries, including information on the state of the war in Ukraine.
After the leak, the Pentagon began limiting the distribution of highly classified daily intelligence briefs.FBI officials in Washington lead the criminal investigation and assess the damage with Pentagon officials.
