In a pivotal moment for Ghana’s democratic evolution, President-elect John Dramani Mahama met with outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to officially inaugurate the 2024 National Transition Team.

The ceremony, held on Wednesday, December 11, at Jubilee House in Accra, signals the commencement of a structured and orderly transfer of power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The National Transition Team—a constitutionally mandated body—will oversee the process of facilitating a smooth transition. This includes coordinating the president-elect’s inauguration, granting access to critical government information, and briefing the incoming administration on pressing state matters.

This meeting underscores Ghana’s enduring commitment to democracy, as successive administrations collaborate to uphold the nation’s governance framework.

Addressing attendees, President-elect Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity and stability during the transition. “Mr. President has given me a brief on the security situation, both internal and external, and a summary of economic issues. The transitional teams will delve deeper into these matters, and we are committed to working together in Ghana’s best interest to ensure a seamless transition.”

Outgoing President Akufo-Addo echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of collaboration and continuity. “I assure him [John Dramani Mahama] of my full support and that of my government throughout the transition process to ensure his administration begins under optimal conditions.”
