Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted allegations suggesting that the new leadership has assumed control of the ruling party.
Alan Kyerematen, a former Minister of Trade and Industry, made accusations of bias against the national executives on Monday. As a consequence of withdrawing from the NPP presidential nomination campaign earlier this month, Kyerematen announced at a public gathering that he was departing from the party and intended to run for president as an independent candidate.
He asserted, “The party has been taken over by a select group of party leaders, elders, government appointees, behind-the-scenes power brokers, and some unscrupulous party members.”
Kyerematen went on to explain his decision, saying, “It was my strong desire to utilize the party as a platform to bring my God-given talents, experience, and knowledge, acquired both locally and internationally over a 46-year period, to serve our beloved nation, Ghana, at the highest level of executive authority.”
He added, “It is abundantly clear to me that my contributions to the party are not valued, and my continued presence in the party will only exacerbate tension and division, reminiscent of the circumstances that led to my resignation from the party in 2008.”
