Mrs. Gloria Izonfuo, the Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC) in Bayelsa State, was abducted by unknown gunmen on Sunday but has since been released. She was kidnapped alongside her driver and maid at Ogbakiri junction along the Rivers State axis of the East-West Road while traveling to Port Harcourt from a trip to Brass in Bayelsa. Reports say she regained her freedom on Friday morning, but it is unclear if kidnappers requested ransom before her release.

The PRO of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed her release. An investigation is ongoing to apprehend the kidnappers. The status of the driver and maid is currently unknown.
