The Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTECH) has taken decisive action in response to the brutal attack on students and teachers at New Juaben Senior High School. The Board and Management of SECTECH have suspended 85 students indefinitely.

The attack occurred on Sunday, May 14, 2023, severely injuring four New Juaben Senior High School students and the school’s chaplain. In response, the Ghana Police Service apprehended four students from SECTECH to aid their investigation.

Simultaneously, the school’s disciplinary committee conducted its inquiry in collaboration with the police. They identified six students as the masterminds behind the attack and promptly administered appropriate sanctions.
Sources within SECTECH revealed that the disciplinary committee interrogated all 85 students involved before presenting their findings to the school’s board. Subsequently, the board recommended and implemented the decision to indefinitely suspend the students. However, most final-year students can sit for their final WASSCE exams.

One student, who suffered a machete blow to the head during the attack and is currently undergoing treatment in Sehwi Wiaso, awaits a decision from the disciplinary committee regarding his punishment until he recovers fully.

Mr. Ofori Antwi, the headmaster, stated that each student had been instructed to pay GH¢2000 for the destruction caused at Njuasco. Sources within SECTECH have confirmed the students will be required to bear the total cost of the damaged items at New Juaben Senior High School. This measure was included in the board’s recommendation. The second-year students involved in the attack have been directed to report to the police headquarters with a letter to seek help finding accommodation near the school.

The board of governors has recommended the demotion of all prefects in the school for detecting no signs of the planned attack on that fateful day.
