Due to an outstanding electricity debt amounting to GHc1 million, the Ministry of Finance is facing disconnection from the national grid.
Over the course of ten months, the ministry has been utilizing electricity without fulfilling its monthly payment obligations, resulting in an accumulated debt of GHc1,025,918.00. Moreover, the ministry has neglected to allocate funds to various municipal and district assemblies for the settlement of their outstanding electricity debts.
Sources within the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have revealed that the issue necessitates immediate attention, prompting the decision to disconnect the Ministry of Finance. This action is intended to send a clear message to relevant authorities regarding the seriousness of the matter.
According to reports from Citi News, a delegation from the ECG is scheduled to hold discussions with the Minister for Finance, Dr. Amin Adam, in an effort to find a mutually acceptable resolution.
In addition to the Ministry of Finance, the ECG is also pursuing Ghana’s Parliament for an outstanding debt of GHc23 million. The ECG national task force has indicated that if this debt remains unpaid, they will proceed with disconnecting parliament from the national grid.
