The Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Limited Company (BOST), Edwin Alfred Provencal, received the title of Africa’s Most Respected CEO in the Petroleum (Storage and Distribution category) for the year 2022. The prestigious event occurred at the Intercontinental Resort, Balaclava, Mauritius, organized under the auspices of the Business Executive and the Economic Development Board of Mauritius.

Another notable winner of the evening was Mr. Ladislaus Matindi, the Managing Director of Air Tanzania Company Limited, who was awarded Africa’s Most Respected CEO 2022 in the Air Transport category. Africa’s Most Respected CEOs platform recognizes companies and individual corporate leaders who contribute significantly to the development of Africa and its population of 1.4 million.

During a panel discussion, Ladislaus Matindi emphasized the need for corporate leaders in both the public and private sectors to acknowledge Africa’s unique situation and tailor solutions to address existing and emerging challenges. This approach is crucial to achieving the dream of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) and taking the continent to the next level, ensuring a better future for its people.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Provencal dedicated the award to the Board, Management, and Staff of BOST, acknowledging their contributions to the company’s remarkable turnaround in recent years. He expressed gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve and the trust placed in him. This recognition of BOST and its Managing Director marks the 14th award received in the past 10 months, highlighting the extensive work undertaken at the company and Mr. Provencal’s leadership in transforming the State-Owned Enterprise.

The citation for Mr. Provencal praised his efforts in reviving BOST from ten years of losses, bringing 97% of the company’s assets to revenue-earning status, and addressing the years of dilapidation and inactivity. Such achievements are crucial for the success of AFCFTA and for breaking the chains of poverty, ignorance, and disease in Africa.

According to Mr. Provencal, Africa’s progress relies on the active involvement and positive energy shared between the public and private sectors. Despite challenges, these should not hinder the continent’s advancement and the well-being of its people.

Dr. Claudius Williams-Tucker, the Country Director of Trans-Global Travel and Logistics in Sierra Leone, was honored for his significant contributions to improving the continent’s prospects at the event. Core Construction Limited, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Frank Lartey of Ghana, was also recognized in the construction category.

Africa’s Most Respected CEO Awards aims to recognize exceptional leadership in both the private and public sectors of Africa, as the continent prepares to leverage the AFCFTA to enhance the lives of its people.
