Move to get taxes on sanitary pads removed

downloadddd

A coalition of Civil Society Organizations advocating for the elimination of taxes on sanitary pads has expressed its support for the initiative put forth by Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu. Sosu is proposing a Private Members Bill with the aim of achieving this goal.

The bill presented by the Madina MP seeks an adjustment of the Customs Tariffs and Levies to eliminate the 15% VAT imposed by the 2022 (Act 1082). Its purpose is to reclassify menstrual hygiene products, shifting them from being considered as final consumer goods to being categorized as zero-rated essential social goods.

The mounting pressure on the government to do away with these taxes is due to their contribution to the high cost of these essential products.
