Former Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Namibia’s first president, Dr. Sam Nujoma, who died in Windhoek at the age of 95.

In a tribute shared on X (formerly Twitter), Akufo-Addo described Nujoma as a towering figure in Africa’s independence movement, whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of H.E. Dr. Sam Nujoma, Founding President of the Republic of Namibia and one of the heroes of African liberation,” he wrote.

He praised Nujoma’s pivotal role in Namibia’s fight for independence from South Africa and his efforts in building a stable, prosperous, and democratic nation.

“The late First President of Namibia’s life will continue to be celebrated for his heroic leadership, not only in the fight for independence from colonial rule but also in laying the foundation for a strong nation.”

Akufo-Addo extended his condolences to the people of Namibia, President Nangolo Mbumba, Nujoma’s widow, children, and the leadership of the SWAPO party.
