The Ministry of National Security has stated that the repatriation of refugees will be carried out while ensuring the protection of their rights. According to the Ministry, any government-led operation to return refugees to their home countries will adhere to international protocols. In response to allegations of an ongoing targeted and forced repatriation of Burkinabe refugees by the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ministry issued a statement clarifying that such reports are untrue.

In their press release on Thursday, July 13, the Ministry assured that all repatriation operations would respect the rights of refugees and displaced individuals from neighboring nations. The Ministry emphasized that displaced Burkinabes are not being coerced to leave Ghana. Still, a repatriation process has been established at the reception center to facilitate the voluntary return of those who wish to return to their country. This process aligns with international refugee management protocols and has been conducted in collaboration with Burkinabe Immigration Authorities along the Ghana-Burkina Faso border.

The release from the Ministry of National Security further stated that the Government of Ghana remains committed to upholding peace, stability, and territorial integrity while promoting the welfare of its citizens. It reiterated that necessary operations would be undertaken without compromising essential values, including respect for human rights, including the rights of refugees and displaced persons from neighboring countries.
