Ghanaian Member of Parliament and diplomat Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has expressed gratitude following high-level bilateral discussions in Prague with Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka, describing the engagement as a significant step forward in strengthening relations between Ghana and the Czech Republic.
The meeting resulted in several major agreements aimed at boosting infrastructure development, healthcare expansion, public transportation, and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.
According to Ablakwa, the discussions focused on translating diplomatic goodwill into tangible projects capable of delivering long-term economic and social benefits for the people of Ghana.
One of the most significant outcomes of the meeting was the revival of a €48 million infrastructure package dedicated to the construction and rehabilitation of critical bridges across Ghana. The project is expected to improve transportation networks, enhance connectivity between communities, and support economic development in key regions of the country.
The two sides also reached agreements on expanding healthcare infrastructure through the VAMED hospital network. The planned initiatives will focus on increasing access to specialized medical services and strengthening healthcare delivery through the development of additional facilities and modern medical infrastructure.
Public transportation modernization was another major topic on the agenda. Negotiations were accelerated to facilitate the importation of a new fleet of Czech-manufactured buses aimed at improving Ghana’s urban transit system. Officials believe the initiative will help address transportation challenges in major cities while improving mobility for commuters.
In addition, Ghana and the Czech Republic initiated preliminary discussions on the possibility of establishing a mutual visa waiver arrangement for eligible travelers. Although the talks remain at an early stage, both countries expressed interest in exploring measures that could enhance people-to-people exchanges, tourism, business travel, and investment opportunities.
Beyond the bilateral engagements, Ablakwa also participated in the GLOBSEC forum in Prague, where he addressed global leaders, policymakers, and international stakeholders on Africa’s evolving role in the changing global order.
During his presentation, he highlighted the growing influence of African nations in international affairs and reiterated calls for global reparatory justice, a cause that Ghana has continued to champion on the international stage.
The discussions at GLOBSEC also focused on strengthening partnerships between Africa and Europe, promoting equitable economic cooperation, and ensuring that African voices play a more prominent role in shaping global policy conversations.
Foreign Minister Macinka reaffirmed the Czech Republic’s commitment to deepening relations with Ghana, describing the West African nation as Prague’s leading strategic partner in the region. He emphasized the importance of building practical partnerships centered on infrastructure, healthcare, transportation, trade, and diplomatic cooperation.
The latest agreements underscore the growing partnership between Ghana and the Czech Republic and reflect a shared commitment to advancing development through mutually beneficial collaboration.
If successfully implemented, the projects announced in Prague are expected to contribute significantly to Ghana’s infrastructure modernization efforts, healthcare expansion, and transportation improvements while opening new avenues for economic and diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
