An Accra Circuit Court has granted GH₵1 million bail with three sureties to TikTok content creator Mahama Aminat, popularly known online as “Bawumia Ba,” following her arrest over viral videos containing alleged insults and death threats directed at President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.
The 26-year-old trader and social media influencer affiliated with the New Patriotic Party was arraigned after prosecutors accused her of making inflammatory online statements capable of disturbing public peace.
The court outlined several stringent conditions that Mahama Aminat must satisfy in order to maintain her temporary release while legal proceedings continue.
Under the bail arrangement:
- The accused must execute a financial bond of GH₵1 million.
- She is required to provide three sureties.
- At least one surety must be a civil servant earning a monthly salary of not less than GH₵5,000.
- Aminat must deposit either her Ghana Card or passport with investigators.
- She is also expected to report regularly to investigative authorities throughout the duration of the case.
According to prosecutors, the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team of the Ghana Police Service arrested Aminat on May 20, 2026, at Sekyere Zongo in the Ashanti Region.

State authorities allege that the influencer released videos containing offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace, incitement of public hostility, and electronic death threats. Prosecutors further claim that some of the videos called on individuals to harm President Mahama.
The strict bail conditions have generated criticism from Aminat’s legal team and political supporters.
Her defense counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, publicly described the conditions as excessive and disproportionate for what the defense argues is a misdemeanor case.
According to the defense, the financial and administrative requirements effectively undermine the constitutional right to bail by imposing conditions that are difficult to satisfy before trial.
The legal team has indicated plans to formally apply for a review and reduction of the bail terms as the case proceeds through the judicial process.
