Ghana’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has rejected GH¢91.8 million in arrears submitted by the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry after determining that the claims lacked sufficient supporting documentation.
The decision followed a parliamentary session on March 30, 2026, during which ministry officials appeared before the committee to respond to audit queries concerning their financial records. The ministry had reported a total of GH¢116.9 million in arrears and payable commitments. However, auditors were only able to validate approximately GH¢25 million based on the documentation provided. This left an unverified balance of GH¢91,837,457, which the committee subsequently disallowed.
During the hearing, former Chief Director of the Ministry, Patrick Nimoh, disputed the audit conclusions. He maintained that all required documents had been submitted and insisted that the figures presented by the ministry were accurate and properly supported.
The development forms part of a broader parliamentary review of government arrears and financial obligations. Lawmakers recently referred a special audit report covering GH¢68.7 billion in arrears and payables to the PAC for further scrutiny. As part of that ongoing process, approximately GH¢8.1 billion in claims have already been rejected due to irregularities, including insufficient documentation and concerns over the authenticity of submitted records.
The committee’s actions underscore increasing efforts to strengthen financial accountability and ensure that all government expenditures are properly verified before approval.
