Two individuals who lost their lives following a building collapse triggered by heavy rainfall in Cape Coast South have been laid to rest. The victims, 27-year-old Rukaya Issah and three-year-old Hanson Ato Mensah, were buried on Saturday, June 20, after their deaths on Friday when torrential rains caused structural failures in parts of the area.
A delegation from the Central Regional Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), led by Regional Director CDCO Kwesi Dawood Mensah, visited the bereaved families to express condolences and provide support. The tragedy has had a significant emotional impact, particularly as the father of the deceased child, Dominic Mensah, serves as a disaster volunteer with NADMO.
In response to the incident, National Disaster Management Organisation has announced plans to collaborate with local authorities and structural engineers to enhance safety measures in affected communities. The organisation further indicated that it will intensify building inspections and ensure that structurally unsafe buildings are identified and demolished to prevent future occurrences and loss of life
