DJI has officially teased its next-generation compact cinema camera, the Osmo Pocket 4P (Pro), during a high-profile showcase at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Branded under the slogan “Cannes Moments. Creativity Unleashed,” the unveiling signals a major strategic shift for the Osmo Pocket lineup—from a casual vlogging gadget to a professional filmmaking tool designed for cinematic production.
Rather than hosting a traditional consumer launch event, DJI chose Cannes as the backdrop for a technical preview aimed at filmmakers, cinematographers, and creative professionals. The company emphasized storytelling capabilities, advanced imaging workflows, and seamless integration with its broader cinema ecosystem, including the Ronin stabilizer and Inspire aerial platforms.
The showcase highlighted DJI’s ambition to position the Osmo Pocket 4P as a serious production camera capable of complementing high-end cinema rigs while maintaining the portability of a pocket-sized device.
Among the most notable upgrades introduced during the preview was a completely redesigned dual-lens camera system. Unlike previous Pocket models that focused heavily on selfie-style and travel vlogging, the new setup is optimized for narrative filmmaking and professional content creation.
DJI also revealed that the Osmo Pocket 4P delivers an impressive 17 stops of dynamic range, representing a substantial leap in sensor performance. The enhancement is expected to provide filmmakers with significantly improved shadow recovery and highlight preservation in challenging lighting environments.
Another major addition is support for 10-bit D-Log 2 color, enabling advanced color grading workflows commonly used in professional post-production pipelines. The feature is designed to provide greater flexibility for editors and cinematographers seeking cinematic visual depth and precision.
The company further showcased upgraded portrait and skin-tone rendering capabilities. According to DJI, the camera has been specifically engineered to produce more natural-looking skin tones and cinematic depth for interviews, documentaries, and film productions.
Although DJI did not disclose official pricing or a final global release date during the Cannes presentation, the company indicated that a broader commercial announcement will follow in the coming months.
However, the rollout may face limitations in certain markets. Current regulatory reports suggest that neither the standard Osmo Pocket 4 nor the premium Osmo Pocket 4P is expected to receive authorization for sale in the United States due to ongoing FCC-related restrictions.
The Cannes preview demonstrates DJI’s growing push into the professional cinema market, as the company continues expanding beyond drones and consumer content tools into high-end visual storytelling technology.
