Ghana Airports Company Limited has commended ValueJet Airlines for entering the Ghanaian aviation market with the launch of its daily Lagos–Accra–Lagos flight operations on March 30, 2026.
The Managing Director of GACL, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, described the move as a strong vote of confidence in Ghana’s aviation sector and its growing reputation as a regional hub. She noted that the introduction of daily flights on the busy West African route reflects increasing investor trust in the country’s air transport industry.
The new service is expected to enhance connectivity between Ghana and Nigeria, strengthening both economic and cultural ties while promoting regional integration across West Africa. Improved flight frequency on this corridor is also anticipated to make travel more convenient for passengers and businesses operating between the two countries.
ValueJet’s entry into the market brings the total number of airlines operating at Kotoka International Airport to 27, a development that is likely to intensify competition and provide travelers with more options and potentially more competitive fares.
GACL has encouraged the airline to uphold high standards in safety, security, reliability, and innovation to ensure a positive travel experience for passengers and to contribute to the overall growth of the sector.
The launch aligns with Ghana’s broader ambition to position itself as a leading aviation hub in West Africa. As part of this strategy, GACL is undertaking several infrastructure upgrades, including the repurposing of Terminal 2 to accommodate both domestic and international flights, which is expected to reduce congestion at Terminal 3. Plans are also underway to construct a connecting concourse between the terminals and develop a new multi-storey car park to support increasing passenger traffic.
In addition, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority has introduced a digital platform aimed at improving service delivery by streamlining the resolution of passenger complaints, further strengthening the country’s aviation ecosystem.
