GFA Unveils GH¢3.5 Million betPawa Package to Boost Black Stars and Black Queens Campaigns

GFA Vice President

The Ghana Football Association has officially announced a major financial support package worth over GH¢3.5 million (more than $300,000), provided by betting brand betPawa, aimed at strengthening preparations for upcoming international campaigns by Ghana’s senior national teams.

The announcement was made under the leadership of GFA Vice President Mark Addo and members of the Executive Council, marking one of the most significant private-sector injections into Ghanaian football in recent years.

The partnership is structured around direct performance rewards and operational support for both national teams, with a strong emphasis on motivation and competitive readiness.

A key highlight of the package is the introduction of a “locker room bonus” system for the women’s national team, the Black Queens. Under this arrangement, each player will receive a GH¢20,000 winning bonus for every match victory at the upcoming CAF TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), reinforcing a growing push toward performance-based equity in Ghanaian football.

For the men’s team, the Black Stars, the funding package provides targeted financial support to enhance preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including high-performance training camps and logistical support as the team builds toward the global competition.

Speaking at the unveiling, GFA Vice President Mark Addo expressed appreciation for betPawa’s continued investment in Ghana’s football ecosystem, describing the partnership as a strong commitment to the long-term development of the sport at both national and grassroots levels.

betPawa has previously played an active role in Ghanaian football, including sponsorship involvement in domestic competitions and incentive-driven initiatives such as matchday performance bonuses in the Ghana Premier League. The latest agreement further extends its footprint in supporting both elite and developmental football structures.

The funding boost comes at a critical time as Ghana’s national teams prepare for major international competitions.

The Black Stars are expected to intensify preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with their group stage campaign set to begin in June 2026 in North America, including fixtures scheduled in Canada and the United States.

Meanwhile, the Black Queens are gearing up for the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where they will aim to make a strong continental impact supported by enhanced performance-based incentives.

With both teams entering high-stakes competitive cycles, the GH¢3.5 million package is expected to play a key role in improving morale, preparation standards, and overall performance output.

The initiative underscores a broader trend of private-sector involvement in African football development, as stakeholders increasingly seek structured ways to link funding directly to performance and competitive success.
