
Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable James Gyakye Quayson (MP), has officially received the Open Letters of Credence of the Ambassador-Designate of the United Republic of Tanzania, Selestine Gervas Kakele. The formal diplomatic engagement took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra on Monday, June 15, 2026.
Deepening Pan-African Diplomatic Foundations
During the reception, Deputy Minister Quayson underscored the longstanding fraternal relations between Ghana and Tanzania, describing them as firmly rooted in the Pan-African vision championed by Africa’s founding leaders.
He referenced the enduring legacy of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, and Tanzania’s founding father, Julius Nyerere, noting that their shared ideals of unity, self-determination, and continental solidarity continue to guide bilateral cooperation.
Expanding Strategic Cooperation Across Key Sectors
Discussions between the two sides centered on strengthening economic diplomacy and modernizing bilateral engagement frameworks. Both Ghana and Tanzania reaffirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation in several strategic areas, including:
Trade and Investment, with a focus on expanding cross-border commercial flows and unlocking new market opportunities;
Tourism development, aimed at creating joint travel initiatives and enhancing destination visibility across both regions;
Education partnerships, particularly through academic exchanges and institutional collaboration; and
Cultural cooperation, designed to deepen people-to-people relations and strengthen regional soft power.
Tanzania Reaffirms Commitment to West Africa Engagement
Ambassador-Designate Kakele reiterated Tanzania’s commitment to strengthening its diplomatic and economic presence in West Africa, with Ghana identified as a key strategic partner in that effort. He expressed optimism about upcoming initiatives expected to promote mutual prosperity and deepen regional integration.
Presentation of Credentials at the Jubilee House
Following the reception at the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador-Designate Kakele joined other newly arrived non-resident envoys on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, to formally present his Letters of Credence to the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, at the Jubilee House.
This ceremonial presentation officially confirms his diplomatic accreditation, granting him full authority to represent the United Republic of Tanzania in Ghana and further advance bilateral relations between the two countries.
