
The Ghana Police Service has opened a detailed forensic investigation following a shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo at a private residence in Kwabenya.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, is reported to have taken place at the home of her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, where she was present at the time of the attack.
Details of the Shooting Incident
According to preliminary police information, the former lawmaker sustained a gunshot wound near her left ear during the incident. She was immediately issued an official Police Medical Report Form and is currently receiving urgent medical care.
Following the attack, Adwoa Safo reported the incident at the Kwabenya Police Station and presented a damaged SUV with registration number GN 3482-24, which was found to have multiple bullet holes.
Forensic Examination Underway
The Ghana Police Service has since intensified its investigation, with the Madina Divisional Police Command impounding the vehicle for further analysis. Ballistic and forensic experts are currently examining the SUV to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the source and trajectory of the gunfire.
Investigators are expected to use the evidence gathered from the vehicle to assist in identifying how the shooting occurred and whether multiple firearms were involved.
Private Security Personnel Arrested
As part of initial security sweeps at the scene, police arrested six private security guards assigned to the residence. The individuals are currently in custody and are being questioned to determine their level of involvement, possible negligence, or any connection to the incident.
Authorities say the arrests form part of efforts to establish a clear picture of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
