A Ghanaian contingent serving under the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau has donated educational materials to support students in the capital city of Bissau. The gesture was carried out by Ghana Company 4 (GHANCOY 4) on March 17, 2026, when the unit presented 500 exercise books to the Centro Escolar Attadanun Islamic School located in the Bairo Ajuda community.

The donation formed part of the contingent’s Civil-Military Cooperation activities aimed at supporting local communities while contributing to stability and development in Guinea-Bissau. The initiative was also intended as an act of charity during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

According to the Combat Team Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Keelson Ekow Amoah, the donation was designed to support ongoing efforts to improve access to education for children in the area while strengthening ties between the peacekeeping mission and the local community. He noted that the initiative also reflects the spirit of solidarity and generosity traditionally associated with Ramadan.

The donation was made possible with support from the Rotary Club of Kumasi-East in Ghana, which partnered with the Ghanaian contingent to provide the exercise books for students at the school.

School authorities welcomed the gesture and expressed appreciation for the support. The deputy director of the institution, Mussa Buaro, thanked the visiting contingent and emphasized the importance of education in shaping a brighter future for the children.

The outreach initiative is part of a broader series of community engagement activities undertaken by the Ghanaian peacekeeping unit. In December 2025, GHANCOY 4 also carried out a humanitarian donation to the Lar Fonte de Vida Orphanage in the Quelele area, assisting vulnerable children during the holiday season.

Such Civil-Military Cooperation programs are designed to build trust between peacekeeping forces and local communities while supporting social development initiatives such as education and welfare services.
