The Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, has led a high-level delegation on an inspection tour of the Port of Keta Administration Block project, expressing confidence in its steady progress and reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to completing the facility by early 2027.
The inspection brought together senior management of GPHA, the Member of Parliament for Keta Constituency, Hon. Kwame Gakpey, and the Dufia of Kedzi, Togbi Acolatse V. The visit followed a successful stakeholder engagement after the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) granted approval for the project’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) permit, marking another key milestone in the development of the Port of Keta.
During the tour, project contractors PSB Realty Company Limited briefed the delegation on the status of construction and showcased ongoing works at the site. According to the contractors, the administration block is approximately 70 percent complete, with all major structural works on the main building already finalized.
Current activities are focused on external infrastructure and finishing works, including the construction of the perimeter fence, development of energy facilities, and installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems necessary for the building’s operation.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, Major General Tanye-Kulono praised the contractors for maintaining both the quality and pace of construction. He reiterated an earlier commitment made to the Overlord of Anlo State, Togbi Sri III, assuring stakeholders that the administration block would be completed and ready for use by the end of January 2027.
He emphasized that the broader Port of Keta project has the potential to become a major economic catalyst for the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole. According to the GPHA Director General, the development is expected to create significant employment opportunities, attract investment, and stimulate the growth of supporting industries and businesses, ultimately improving livelihoods across the region.
The Member of Parliament for Keta Constituency, Hon. Kwame Gakpey, also welcomed the project’s progress, describing it as a landmark initiative for both the constituency and the Volta Region. He noted that the approval of the EIA permit represents a crucial step toward realizing a long-anticipated infrastructure project that could transform the local economy.
Hon. Gakpey encouraged residents, particularly young people, to prepare for the opportunities the port is expected to generate by investing in relevant education, vocational training, and technical skills that will enhance their employability.
He expressed optimism that the successful completion of the Port of Keta will usher in a new era of socio-economic development, positioning the region as an important hub for trade, investment, and job creation while strengthening Ghana’s maritime infrastructure and economic competitiveness.
