Lordina Mahama has been praised for her compassion and longstanding support for the clergy, particularly her personal care for Rev. Joseph Baisie after the death of his first wife.
The story was shared by former John Dramani Mahama during a retirement service for the pastor in early 2026. According to him, Lordina Mahama stepped in during the difficult period to provide both emotional and practical support for Rev. Baisie as he mourned his loss.
President Mahama humorously recounted that his wife “adopted” the pastor as her “second husband,” a lighthearted way of describing how she ensured he was never left alone during his time of grief. For several years, she personally prepared home-cooked meals for him, including traditional Ghanaian dishes such as light soup, palmnut soup, and jollof rice.
Her support continued until Rev. Baisie eventually remarried to Mama Patricia. The Mahama family and the Baisie family have maintained a close relationship over the years through their shared faith at the Assemblies of God, Ghana, where they worship at the Ringway Gospel Centre in Accra.
The story also reflects Lordina Mahama’s broader humanitarian work through the Lordina Foundation. Through the foundation, she regularly organizes outreach programs to support widows and vulnerable families, including New Year gatherings that provide encouragement and financial assistance.
She also supports retired pastors and their spouses within the Assemblies of God, Ghana, by sponsoring quarterly medical screenings, treatments, and welfare support. During festive seasons, she often distributes hampers containing essential items such as rice, cooking oil, and fabric, along with cash donations to help ease financial burdens for beneficiaries.
