A student of the Ghana School of Law has sadly passed away after collapsing during a lecture, sparking fresh concerns about emergency medical care on campus.
In a statement released on Monday, March 23, 2026, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) confirmed that the incident happened on Saturday, March 21, during a class session.
According to the SRC, the student suddenly experienced a medical emergency. Fellow students quickly stepped in to help and rushed him to Ridge Hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he was unfortunately pronounced dead.
The Council described the loss as deeply painful for the entire school community and extended heartfelt condolences to the student’s family, friends, and colleagues.
It also acknowledged steps taken by the school’s management to offer counselling and psychological support to students affected by the incident.
However, the SRC raised concerns over reports that the campus clinic was not accessible at the time of the emergency. It noted that this situation brings serious questions about student safety and the readiness of emergency response systems on campus.
As a result, the Council has called for an urgent meeting with school authorities to better understand what happened and to push for stronger measures to improve healthcare access and emergency preparedness.
Some of the key proposals include better access to on-campus medical services, clear and well-communicated emergency response procedures, and increased investment in health facilities.
The SRC stressed that the safety, health, and well-being of students remain its top priority and assured the community that it will continue to engage management to help prevent such tragedies in the future.
